Cildo Meireles opens in Mexico City
The Cildo Meireles exhibition opens at the Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo in early July. The exhibition which opened at Tate Modern in London last year and then traveled to Barcelona in early 2009 was due to have continued to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Houston Museum of Fine Arts but both museums pulled out as venues, so this will be the only opportunity to see the exhibition of this acclaimed Brazilian artist in North America.
Cecilia Fajardo-Hill appointed Vice President of Curatorial Affairs and Chief Curator at the Museum of Latin American Art, Long Beach, CA
Cecilia Farardo-Hill who was director and chief curator of the Cisneros Fontanals Arts Foundation, founded by Ella Fontanals Cisneros, Trustee of the American Patrons of Tate, will be taking over her new position in early August. We are all looking forward to the exciting changes she will bring to the Museum.
Teresa Margolles will participate in AN ART-COVERED ISLAND on New York's Governors Island
Creative Time, a nonprofit organization that presents art around the city, has commissioned 20 international artists to create site-specific works that will become part of PLOT09: This World & Nearer Ones, a free exhibition that opens on June 27.
The artists are a mix of well-known names, like Mark Wallinger and Lawrence Weiner, and emerging ones, like Teresa Margolles, Tue Greenfort and Edgar Arceneaux. The artists were not asked to follow a specific theme, but rather to respond to the site. Teresa Margolles is importing a cinderblock wall from Mexico City where a gang-style execution occurred.
