American Patrons of Tate sponsors Pop Life: Art in a Material World
From Warhol to the YBAs, Koons to Kippenberger, artists have mixed commerce and glamour to promote their public image. Alongside works from these artists, Pop Life also includes pieces from Damien Hirst's 2008 auction and a reconstruction of Keith Haring's Pop Shop. The exhibition opens on October 1 and we’re pleased to be able to support this important survey thanks to a generous gift from our Trustee, Jim Chanos.
John Baldessari: Pure Beauty opens at Tate Modern on October 13
What a great month for American art at Tate! This exhibition, curated by Jessica Morgan, will honor one of the most influential artists of his generation. Baldessari's lifelong interest in language, both written and visual, has been at the forefront of both his artwork and his teaching, through which, over more than thirty years, he has nurtured and influenced succeeding generations of artists. His work has had a huge influence on Cindy Sherman, David Salle, and Barbara Kruger among others. Our endowment recently helped Tate acquire Hope (Blue) Supported by a Bed of Oranges (Life): Amid a Context of Allusions 1991
Tate News: Most Successful Year Ever for Art Acquisitions
At the launch of its annual report, Tate announced last month its most successful year on record for acquisitions to the collection having acquired over $150million work of art. This included Anthony d’Offay’s gift of Artist Rooms and a number of donations of important works by artists such as David Hockney, Michael Craig-Martin, Leon Ferrari and Robert Frank. We’re proud to have been able to contribute to this success.

We are extremely happy to welcome Lilian Mauer from Montreal as new member of our American Acquisitions Committee which helps acquire contemporary American art for Tate.
