November 2009

Our latest news,

Roni Horn aka Roni Horn Opens at Whitney Museum of American Art on November 6
For more than thirty years, Roni Horn has been developing work of concentrated visual power and intellectual rigor, often exploring issues of gender, identity, androgyny, and the complex relationship between object and subject. Jointly organized by the Whitney Museum of American Art and Tate Modern, Roni Horn aka Roni Horn is the most comprehensive overview of Roni Horn's work to date.  The curators, who are working in close collaboration with Horn, are the Whitney's Chief Curator and Associate Director for Programs Donna De Salvo and curator of drawings Carter E. Foster, and Mark Godfrey, curator at Tate Modern.  Following the Whitney's presentation, it travels to The Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, where it will be on view from February 19 to June 13, 2010.

Cakes will be Unveiled
Yes, the countdown has begun to our fabulous event on Tuesday November 3, which we are hosting with Kreemart, an organization that believes art is nourishment. Four of New Yorks leading chefs (Lidia Bastianich and pastry chef Brooks Headley from Del Posto, Guido Mogni from Sant Ambroeus, Bob Spiegel of Creative Edge Parties and Dominique Ansel from Daniel) will be working with the artists Marina Abramovic, Leandro Erlich, Mickalene Thomas and Rob Wynne to create unique cakes which will be unveiled and eaten. Marina Abramovic and Mickalene Thomas will give performances. We hope our New York friends will join us as our guests on the evening, and anyone visiting New York too. Don’t worry if you can’t attend, we hope to be able to post a video of the event here next month.

North American Acquisitions Committee
Our North American Acquisitions Committee met in London during Frieze and voted to acquire works by Geoffrey Farmer and Jack Goldstein to present to Tate, as well as make a contribution towards the purchase of photographs by Laurie Simmons. The Committee formally adopted a new name, recognizing recent acquisitions of Canadian contemporary art.

John Baldessari on Tate Channel
To mark the exhibition John Baldessari: Pure Beauty which opened at Tate Modern last month, Tate Channel has made a wonderful video.
