Moyra Davey acquired for Tate
We are delighted to announce the recent gift of a work by Moyra Davey from Liz Gerring Radke and Kirk A. Radke. Copperhead Grid 1990 is the first work by Moyra Davey, a Canadian born, New York based artist, to enter the Tate’s Collection. She has exhibited
in New York since the early 1990s, showing first at American Fine Arts, and later being one of the artists who ran the gallery/artist’s space Orchard. The Copperheads are among her best known works to date, the work comprising one hundred small color photographs arranged in a ten by ten grid. Each photograph was taken with a macro, close-up lens, and shows the profile of Abraham Lincoln on the face of an American one cent coin. The grid thus presents a dollar’s worth of coins in an orderly arrangement. We are extremely grateful to Liz and Kirk for this generous gift. Thank you!
