Artists Dinner Raises $800,000
The art and fashion worlds came together on Thursday May 6th for the American Patrons of Tate’s Second Artists Dinner. The evening was chaired by Glenda Bailey (editor-in-chief, Harper’s Bazaar) and Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild (chair, American Patrons of Tate) and was held at the Hearst Tower. David Stark decorated the room on the 44th floor with 16,000 brightly colored pencils that were donated to Materials for the Arts for use by artists and schools. There was a special live performance by Patti Smith with songs including "Because the Night" and "People Have the Power" which got the crowd of 250 on their feet and clapping! Sir Nicholas Serota (Director, Tate) announced gifts of art by David Salle and Haim Steinbach from Douglas S Cramer and a work by Agnes Martin from Milly and Arne Glimcher which was given in honor of Anthony d'Offay and ARTISTS’ ROOMS. The evening raised $800,000 with money being directed to our endowment which acquires art from North and South America.
