American Patrons of Tate presents "Collecting Video Art"

On Wednesday February 17 at 6pm, Pamela Kramlich, a long-standing member of the American Patrons of Tate who, starting in the late 1980s, became the world's first great private collector of media art and now, with her husband Richard, possesses an internationally renowned collection of video, film, and digitally imaged works, has kindly agreed to join a panel discussion that will focus on collecting new media and how she and her husband are planning to share their collection with future generations by partnering with the Tate, The Museum of Modern Art, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.  Joining Mrs. Kramlich will be Jack Lane. Dr. Lane was formerly director of the Carnegie Museum of Art and SFMOMA and is now Director Emeritus of the Dallas Museum of Art and President/CEO of the New Art Trust, the charity founded by the Kramlichs to preserve and share their media art collection. Frances Morris, Head of Collections (International Art) at Tate, will moderate the discussion. Sir Nicholas Serota, director of Tate, will join us.

The event will be held at the Core Club, 66 East 55th Street New York NY 10022.

Space is extremely limited and RSVP is crucial by either this email or 212 643 2818.

The exhibition includes paintings and drawings from across his career, and a handful of rarely seen sculptures. The exhibition is organized with the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles

James Slaughter

We were deeply saddened to learn of the recent death of James “Jimmy” Slaughter, a close friend and supporter.  As Managing Director and Trustee of the Horace W. Goldsmith Foundation – one of America’s largest foundations and created by his stepfather - Jimmy was one of the most important cultural philanthropists of his generation. Tate was fortunate to have received many generous grants support from the foundation over the past eighteen years, many of which were used to support exhibitions of American artists at Tate.

North American Acquisitions Committee

We are happy to welcome Dr. Kira Flanzraich as a new member of our North American Acquisitions Committee which helps acquire contemporary American art for Tate.
