Jose Roca appointed Estrellita B. Brodsky Adjunct Curator of Latin American Art
Tate is delighted to announce the appointment of Colombian curator José Roca as the Estrellita B. Brodsky Adjunct Curator of Latin American Art. The post, which reflects Tate’s continuing commitment to broadening the geographical scope of the Collection, is for a period of three years from 2012 to 2015. José will take a leading role in developing Tate’s holdings of art from Latin America and will work closely with Tate’s Latin American Acquisitions Committee, now celebrating its tenth year, which is administered by the American Patrons of Tate. José Roca was most recently the chief curator of the 8th Bienal do Mercosul(2011) in Porto Alegre, Brazil and for a decade he managed the arts programme and oversaw the development of the collection at the Banco de la República in Bogotá, establishing it as one of the most respected institutions in the Latin American circuit. The post is sponsored by Estrellita Brodsky, Trustee of the American Patrons of Tate and member of the Latin American Acquisitions Committee.  Our heartfelt thanks goes to Estrellita for her generous support.

Latin American Exhibition Level 2 Tate Modern
No Lone Zone is a technical term which refers to a restricted area where at least two people must have sight of a critical or sensitive procedure. The exhibition brings together works by Cinthia Marcelle, Teresa Margolles, David Zink Yi and the Tercerunquinto collective that explore this concept in relation to the vulnerability of current social and economic structures. Consisting of sculpture, video and installation, the exhibition reflects on the senses of loss, danger or urgency that inform human actions and collective endeavors in such a turbulent global context. No Lone Zone is result of a collaboration between Tate Modern, London and Sala de Arte Público Siqueiros, Mexico City. The curatorial exchange is supported by the World Collections Program, with the collaboration of Gasworks. The Level 2 Gallery program is made possible with the generous support of Catherine Petitgas.

A Digital Archive of 20th-Century Latin American Opens at MFAH
The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and its research institute, the International Center for the Arts of the Americas (ICAA), have devoted ten years and 50 million dollars to initiatives in 20th-century Latin American and Latino art. In January 2012, the MFAH and ICAA will reach a milestone in these efforts: the initial launch of a digital archive of some 10,000 primary-source materials, culled by hundreds of researchers based out of 16 cities in the U.S. and throughout Latin America. The online archive will be available worldwide, free of charge, and is intended as a catalyst for the future of a field that has been notoriously lacking in accessible resources. The phased, multi-year launch begins with 2,500 documents from Argentina, Mexico and the American Midwest. Documents from other countries and communities will continue to be uploaded and made available..
